Zapote

Blog entry written by Risen Life Church Team Leader – Sean

Hey everyone!  This is Sean taking my turn to write the blog.  First off I want to thank each of you who have been commenting on the previous blog posts.  Aaron has been updating us every night with your posts and that has been very encouraging.

Today was our first day in Zapote.  We have plans to build two houses, each with a stove, and two additional stoves there.  Today we got started on one of the houses and a stove.  It is amazing to see how people can survive with seemingly nothing but still greet you with a smile and invite you to share what they have.  After greeting Glendee and her two infant children we got to work tearing down the existing house, leveling the land, marking where the new house was going to sit, and getting to work on the stove.  We were able to get a good amount of work done but were stopped when the skies opened up with a lot more rain than any of us from Salt Lake are accustomed to.   Tomorrow we will be able to finish the house and the stove and radically change the way this family is living.

Risen Life was also able to bring down some additional project funds in addition to the material costs.  In looking for something that would bless the ministry here we asked Tono what they could use.  He mentioned that an impact drill would help immensely.  Before we headed out to Zapote today we took Tono to the hardware store and purchased the drill.  Tono looked like a kid in a candy store when we were checking out.  We didn’t get to use the drill today but they are very excited to have this tool make easy work of breaking up rocks when building these houses.  Thank you to everyone in our church family for the honor of giving this gift to them!

I have been so proud of each of the team members with their flexibility, their willingness to serve, and doing all these things with a smile.  The team is very excited to finish the house and stove tomorrow!  Please pray that the rain would stay away long enough for us to finish.  Please also pray for Glendee and her family and for Pastor Jose Luis who will be following up with Glendee long after we are gone.  May God bless this family!

We love you all!
